A Very Special Critter arrived today & my daughter and I have already read it. We always enjoy the critter books but this one is going to be a favorite. There is a new student joining critter's class who arrives in a wheelchair looking very frightened. Before long critter and his friend's realize the new boy is no different than the rest of them and is good at some things (like volleyball & math) and needs help with others things just like critter (reaching high items). It's a sweet tale of accepting the differences in all of us and my daughter was riveted to the pages

Great Torah commentary

This is a fascinating approach to understanding yet further, the myriad of interpretations that evolve from Torah. Thoughtful, artful, and well-researched, also easily accessible for scholar and student. I highly recommend this for all interested in a new perspective from timeless text.

Complicated

This book is highly formal, using old fashioned language and concepts. I guess if you want a highly structured, highly formal "how to" book then this book is for you. If you are more of a free spirit who says what you are moved by the Holy Spirit to say when you pray, then you may feel constrained by this book. I did. It made me feel like all the prayers I have ever said before have been unworthy, it almost made me feel put down. Plus, the author must live in a bubble of "high etiquette" because he speaks as if life can always be "planned." For example, when discussing how to offer prayer before a meal, he says it is proper if you are asked in advance so that you are prepared to offer prayer. In today's world, who gets a written invitation to offer pray before a meal, even when it's a meal that is held in public with a large group of people? I felt like the life this author is coming from and my life couldn't be more different. I was given this book to read in advance of a course that I need to take. The publisher also did a terrible job with the way the pages are laid out. Imagine an 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper, with margins narrowed to fit as many words as possible on a single spaced sheet of paper. The font used is Times New Roman 11 (my guess), no spacing between lines, and narrow margins. It was a terrible experience for me to read this book. The headings where the Bible verses are listed are printed in some type of ultra "fancy" font. It is a lightweight font and it's barely readable. I just hope this book gets republished in the future so that it is formatted better and the language is changed - it makes me feel like it was written in the 1950's. The copyright says 2001. This book would be much more effective if it was the language was modernized, the techniques were updated, and if the layout was more appealing. I will be on the hunt for a different book that is more modern and is written in the context of life that is not lived in high society.

The Best Book Ever on Praying in Public

This workbook is a fabulous resource for anyone who is leading worship or praying in a public setting. Each time I invite people to attend this Lay Servant class, I hear the same thing, "Oh, I don't bellieve that prayers should be written down or prepared in advance. I think they should be spontaneous!". Then, 10 hours later, at the end of class, they ALL say, "Wow! I had NO idea there were so many types of prayers. I could/should be doing this better!" If you are preparing prayers for worship - unison prayers, litanies, prayers of confession, etc. - you can't very well do them spontaneously! They must be thought out in order to be meaningful. And they must be written down. This workbook is wonderful! One of my favorite sections is "Praying to the God that is Present". It reminds us that we DON'T need to ask God to 'be with us' or 'Be with John . . . .' He's ALREADY with us! And the section on the "Lord, we just wanna. . . . " type of prayers will crack you up! From seasoned Christians to new people in the faith, this book will challenge you to put the effort into making prayer - public or private - more meaningful. (Just taught a class of 12 and they raved about it!)

Exposed

The last man a social climber in the 1950’s wants their daughter to end up with is the Russian boy, his heritage making him a virtual social outcast and a target for suspicion. But, June’s ideas about what she wants out of life and her mother’s aren’t exactly in sync. June and Ivan butt heads a lot in the beginning, but even through the fighting the attraction is undeniable. June is struggling with others expectations and her social image, while Ivan is struggling with the ability to trust or see good in the people beyond his family. This focuses so much on internal struggle and overcoming your own shortcomings. I loved the way Ivan and June challenged each other to become better people, and supported each other as they strived to do that. Great read and I look forward to reading Ruth’s story in Ignited! Be sure to check out the Exposed Bonus Story (in-law introduction dinner short) available as a free download on the Author’s website. Love the bonus stories!

An Excellent Second Book

'Exposed' is the second book in Lily Cahill's Independence Falls Superhero series. I first encountered the series with a free copy of the first book, and was sufficiently hooked to go back and buy this second entry in the series. I'm happy to report that 'Exposed' was well worth the money. The story is well plotted and well written, with interesting and fully-fleshed characters. I will admit that the story had one subplot that I wasn't thrilled with (in the name of No Spoilers I will decline to describe it), but that speaks more to my own prejudices than to any weakness in the story. I would heartily recommend this excellent series.

Second book in Independence Fall series is just as great as the first! I love that I was already introduced to the main characters from meeting them in Sparked. Its just such a fun, sexy read and such unique story telling. I'm so excited for the next books and eager to learn who is pairing off and what powers they have! You'll love it!

Must Have For the TV Video Collector

I purchased the first two books way back when they first came out (1959-1975 and 1975-1980) and I have found these two books to be more valuable in the age of TV Programs on DVD because they list not only the titles of programs, but the actors. And the order of episodes is especially helpful if you are recording rare TV shows.

I didn't know the author had more books out after 1980. I'm definitely interested because this author is very thorough and his books are a must have for anyone interested in early TV.

An amazing piece of work.

This is THE reference for anyone, professional or amateur, who is writing an episode guide or just wants to have a list of the episodes of a given drama in airdate order. An invaluable resource, as shown by the number of Web-based episode guides that cite one or all of these volumes as references. For most TV series, Gianakos also critiques certain episodes, and puts the shows into the context of their time. The 1959-75 volume is my personal favorite, capturing the era I believe to have been TV's best. This is an inexplicably underrated series of books.
