Enjoyable and Enlightening Read

In "You're Not That Great", Dr. Crosby challenges his audience to consider the ways that bias, flawed thinking, and unhelpful habits are holding them back from realizing their full potential. A skilled author, Dr. Crosby manages to treat his subject with both the seriousness it deserves and a lightness that makes the book a hugely enjoyable read. Days after finishing YNTG, I find myself revisiting the book - with highlighter in hand. I am using the real-life application exercises at the end of each chapter to develop a plan for a more deliberate, more fulfilling New Year. I believe that a wide audience - including recent grads, career-changers, parents concerned with an entitlement culture, and anyone in need of boost - will find YNTG a useful and entertaining addition to their library.

The perfect book to pick up before New Year's resolutions or to reset your mind towards a more positive outlook. Entertaining and easy to follow. It leaves you a sense that being absolutely normal is exactly what you want to be in order to achieve whatever lofty goal you have set before yourself. Buy it!

This is Not Your Typical Self-Help Book

Most other self-help books gush with praise for people telling them how awesome they are. Dr Crosby tells people how awesome they can become, and how to get there.

Although the title is misleading and controversial for a self-help book, it shocks the reader into not being complacent with the status quo, which is awesome, unless of course the reader wants to continue the status quo. In that case the reader should stop reading personal development/improvement books as they may change their situation which is not what they want.

It's definitely a great book for people who question they're self-worth and whether or not they are capable of accomplishing great things. The book shows how to tap into our own inner strengths and do those great feats and become that great person that we imagine ourselves becoming.

Dateline -- Paramount Pictures announces the formation of its own television network, with a new Star Trek program as its cornerstone. The year is not 1994, but 1977 and the new series titled Star Trek Phase II would have reunited almost all of The Original Series cast members. A footnote in Star Trek history, few people realize how close Star Trek Phase II came to full-scale production.

All of the actors were signed except Leonard Nimoy, whose Spock character would have been replaced by a young Vulcan, Xon. Sets and props were designed and constructed. New models, including a never seen model of the U.S.S. Enterprise, were built. A special effects company was hired, and scripts were written, including a two-hour teleplay that would have been the pilot for the series. But, the plans for the network were canceled, and Paramount decided to shift gears to feature film production, shutting down the television series -- less than two weeks before the beginning of principal photography. The result of this decision was Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

This book contained information about the transformation from TOS to the making of "phase II", a TV series that eventually was scrapped and the pilot was morphed into ST:TMP. I found the information to be interesting, and would recommend it to any Star Trek fan, especially those of TOS.
Most interesting to me was the analyses of how the scrapped Phase II produced characters and scripts that were eventually seen on ST:TNG. Xon "became" Data, Ilia "became" Troi, and Decker=Riker is fairly obvious. Additionally, scripts like "The Child" that were written for Phase II, were later filmed for ST:TNG.
Also included is the full first draft script of the pilot for Phase II, which again morphed int ST:TMP. It's interesting to see how the drafts change and (mostly) become stronger. Furthermore,are 4-8 page descriptions of all each story that would have been in Phase IIs first season.
I do recommend this book for any Trek fan. The background information is limited, as the majority of the book is the scripts, but it is still an interesting piece of ST history.

Books like these seldom hit the bookshelves here so I bought it the first time I saw it and was not disappointed. The content is interesting specially for Original Series fans. It gives you an insight into Roddenberry's vision after the first three seasons. It even includes sketches, scripts, plots, behind-the-scene info. The story-telling is a little dull. Then again, this is not a novel, so I believe an exception is in order. All-in-all, an exceptional piece of literature.

Rewind to 1977, when Star Trek was entering its seventh year of syndication, creator of the Original Series and the 22-episode Star Trek animated series, Gene Roddenberry, conceived of a new live Star Trek series. The show was called Star Trek Phase II, and Paramount decided to have the show on their new network. Sets and props and costumes were designed and tested. The writers also wrote a two-hour teleplay which is the pilot for Phase II. The cast almost reunited, but without Leonard Nimoy.
When principal photography almost started, Paramount decided to cancel the network and the series. Instead of having Star Wars cancel them out, they decided to have a movie instead of a pilot... thus begins the story of the lost Star Trek series. They made the first episode of Phase II, which was "In Thy Image, Parts I and II" into the first movie, "Star Trek: The Motion Picture." Several Phase II stories are in this book and the design of the never-seen-before U.S.S. Enterprise are shown. The book is 360 pages of information on the almost-but-didn't happen Star Trek series.
Hold on, Gene, there is some way to salvage the pieces of the Phase II sets. Now, fast forward to 2001-2004 where Star Trek movies are made more better on DVD. Watch the text commentary by Michael and Denise Okuda on the Original cast films, where they reveal stuff about Phase II, like what pieces were used in the six Trek films and "Nemesis." This great pair is more than you need for a Star Trek series.

Squirming

Some of the most beautifully written, sensually erotic sex scenes I've ever read. Since Nin, everything else seems precious in comparison. Some of the stories are quite intense, the depictions of voyeurism and women being restrained can be offensive to some, but I found them refreshing. The erotica is not safe, but blunt and honest. I think authors are finally coming out of their shells and writing pure, improved erotic fiction - its a shame no one took note from Nin earlier.

I have had these books several times and have lent them out and have never had them returned! I shan't be lending this copy out because I really enjoy these stories.Wonderful for fans of Erotica!

About the Author
Christopher Hampton was born in the Azores in 1946. He wrote his first play, When Did You Last See My Mother? at the age of eighteen. Since then, his plays have included The Philanthropist, Savages, Tales from Hollywood, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, White Chameleon and The Talking Cure. He has translated plays by Ibsen, Moliere, von Horvath, Chekhov and Yasmina Reza (including Art and Life x 3). Florian Zeller (b. 1979) is a French novelist and playwright. His works include The Fascination of Evil (Prix Interallie 2004), Artifical Snow, Lovers or Something Like it and Julien Parme. His plays include The Father and The Mother.

Padded play -- wildly repetitious.

Not without talent, but his plays -- all of them -- feel so padded. This being the most egregious example. So much repetition, characters merely restating what the other has said with exclamation points at the end. (Mamet does this better -- here it just feels needlessly shrill and silly.) It's a kind of weak stunt, the conceit of a play, but what is painfully obvious is that Zeller needs to draw it out so the entire thing amounts to what is known in the trade as a "full evening of the theater," so people would feel they got their money's worth, sitting there for an hour and a half as opposed to 45 minutes, which is probably what this should appropriately be. Not remotely deep and something you'll forget ten minutes after seeing it.
